Biking to Build Community

Studio SC biked through the month of May this year as a participating team in the citywide Bike to Work Challenge presented by Adobe and Cascade Bicycle Club.

Not only did we kill it in our league (our scrappy team of five riders was consistently ranked in the top 50 out of almost 2,000 teams), but by choosing to bike, we experienced the city and our neighborhoods in new and unexpected ways. Quaint alleyways and pocket parks we never noticed before presented inviting spots for a stroll, and a few of us even found new restaurants and cafés to check out.

As experiential graphic designers we are interested in community engagement and opportunities for connection. Bike to Work Challenge delivered on that front in a number of ways. We connected with our urban environment, connected with many of our collaborators and clients who also participated in the challenge, and connected as coworkers by competing together as a team.

After our month of riding as team Studio SC, we enjoyed the opportunity to ease the frantic pace of modern life and take advantage of a more community minded approach to urban living.
